Why do newspapers make it so difficult to give them news?

We’ve seen plenty of news lately about print media scaling back, including the Christian Science Monitor and U.S. News and World Report ending their print editions to “focus on the web.”

Considering how much newsrooms are underfunded, understaffed and underutilized at many newspapers these days, it’s always surprising to me that they make delivering news or news tips so difficult.

Part of my day job is putting out news announcements to various media in a three-state area. Therefore, I spend a lot of time trying to contact reporters and editors at newspapers.

The newspaper industry in particular has been struggling with the growth of online…

Art Van unwraps free publicity

Testing your campaign ideas out online can get you more than useful feedback, it might just save you from a complicated legal issue later.

The Art Van Furniture company recently had some ideas on how to redesign the look of their delivery trucks. They posted the ideas and asked people to vote.

One early choice was a truck that showed a leather sofa emerging from a partially unwrapped candy bar.

The candy bar looked a bit too familiar to the folks at the Hershey’s chocolate company. According to a Hershey’s’ lawyer, Art Van was trying to cash in on the “substantial fame” of the…

Presidential Interactive Marketing?

I am impressed with both presidential candidates use of interactive marketing.  I’ve been gathering information to place my vote in the upcoming election and I’ve seem numerous improvements in the marketing tactics since the previous election.  I have noticed an increase in email communications, videos, blogging, and webcasts.  It will be interesting to see how these marketing tactics affect the young voter turnout and how effective the candidate’s message was within their campaign strategy.  I guess the world of interactive marketing is progressing, if old men and women in Washington are using it!

Adobe CS4 Update

The updates to CS4 seem to be more of a system overhaul than a system upgrade.  The new and improved CS4 will provide designers from video production, print design, and the web to reduce their time allocated to projects with the workflow enhancements.  In addition, Adobe has designed the system to easily assist designers to bridge their designs from print to the web and from the web to your TV screen.  The latest report by DoubleClick on Creative Insights on Rich Media supports the trends of providing rich media through all forms of communication such as mobile phones, TV, digital…

Adobe Create Suite 4

Adobe will be releasing a new Creative Suite 4 product soon.  There will be a webcast on September 23 to display the latest features of the software.  I am excited to see the newest enhancements with the new version of the product.  You can visit www.adobe.com for additional information of the webcast.  If you have not noticed, I am a believer of Adobe products and the benefits that they provide to interactive marketing.

Marketing in a Recession

If you stop advertising a brand which is still in its infancy stage, you will most likely kill the product for ever.   Studies have been conducted during the last six recessions that have demonstrated that companies that did not cut back on their advertising/marketing budget achieve greater increases in profits than their competitors who did cut back their budget.  Doesn’t this include interactive marketing of today’s products and services?

Web 2.0 B2B Sales Lead Generation

My colleagues and I are having a disagreement (water cooler conversation) on the most effective web media for generating B2B sales leads.  I’m doing some research on the issue and came across Marketing Profs Research Insights document.  It’s about 74 pages of information that describes how B2B marketers are leveraging traditional forms of media with Web 2.0 to increase lead generation.  What are your thoughts on the subject of Web 2.0 media and lead generations?

You Suck at Photoshop: What we can REALLY learn from it

It’s possible to learn some handy graphic design tips from the Webby Award winning online video series You Suck at Photoshop. But You Suck, from creators Matt Bledsoe and Troy Hitch, teaches entertainment and advertising creatives a lot more about how to tell a story in the online medium.

As story, Donnie Hoyle’s tortured tutorials involving the use of the cloning tool and the horrible breakdown of his marriage is brilliant.

That’s because it shows us what elements are most important for telling a good story on the web:

  • First-Person Point-of-View: Donnie talks right at us. This is completely one man’s life. Narrow focus.
  • Specific World: You…

Picture It!

A picture is worth a thousand words and in some cases it’s true.
Imagine a Coca Cola vending machine with sparkling dew in the middle of
an arid desert.  Now imagine it humming quietly in the corner of your
local mall.  Not even close to the same feeling, is it?

Images can be a strong way to get your customers attention but there
are some times when an image won’t do it.  When you need to:
-Give detailed information
-Let customers contact you more than 1 way
-Need to have interactions/ or get information

Choose and use your images wisely!

Sometimes, as the dawn creeps in on me I end up diving deep into sites I would never collide while I am fully awake. Today is one of those days, I love it when I suddenly click click on a site site and before I know it I am flushed with info and images that simply sparks my mind and heart and make me want to create and express myself and specially share with others what I just found. So, what do we have here today? Good bloody question, I found a great little video clip…
