So Everyone Gets a Say Now….
the question is, is that a good thing. Sure diversity of thought can make more creation happen, but when it comes to the world of online that does not always translate out. A lot of great sites end up with what are basically useless comments. Of course useless comments come in a lot of different varieties.
Pure Spam: Its all links, or junk code. This is the most recognizable form of useless comments, and the most senseless.
Name Calling Flame Wars: Wars that consist of comments like “Windows Sucks you r-tard” or “&^(&%^ U!!!!” are not contributing to a productive debate. They are a waste of space, and make all blog comments lose any authority by making us sound like petulant 8 years olds from south park.
Agree Comments: This is the most insidious type. They seem like a good thing, but an endless stream of pointless “That’s so true!!!” comments just sound like an endless stream of lemmings. It’s not that they are spam, they just don’t add anything to the conversation. Imagine talking to someone who always agrees, and never adds.
With all the junk types no wonder some community managers look like this at the end of the day:
