Americans like accents

Yesterday I was watching the news at noon and the following soap operas. I was not paying particular attention to the spots for baby products and make up, but the above spot (the first, not the second) came on and I was intrigued with what and how they were trying to sell fiber-licious powder to me.

The woman in the ad is in a very ‘couture’ outfit (if you will), while the voice over explains the benefits of fiber daily. But what struck me beyond the wardrobe and information, was the fact that the voice over carried a British accent.

Shortly after, there was another spot for Fiber One’s new line of fiber-filled yogurt (yuck). This one took place in a grocery store between the store’s employees who were handing out samples and the customers taste testing the product. Again, a British accent was present in the voice over.

So fiber is in this year as we need it to regulate our bodies in the decline of healthy diets everywhere. But when it comes to advertising your new or improved fiber product to women watching afternoon soaps and their weight, clearly a British accent is where it’s at.
